How It Began
It Started With One Consultation Room
Animal Medical Centre began with a simple frustration: pet owners in Kathmandu had nowhere to go when an animal fell seriously ill after dark.
The first version of AMC was a single consultation room in Chundevi with a borrowed microscope and one veterinarian answering a mobile phone at every hour of the night. Word spread the way it always does in this city — one recovered dog at a time, one neighbour telling another.
What has not changed since that room is the idea behind it: that a pet owner deserves a straight answer, a fair price, and someone who picks up the phone. Everything we have added over the years — the laboratory, the operating theatre, the in-patient ward — was added because an animal in front of us needed it.
“Nobody brings a healthy animal to a vet. They come frightened, and often late. Our whole job is to make that moment less frightening — and to be open when it happens.”
